A  2-day Training Program for Banks/FIs/NBFCs under GEF-World Bank Project Financing Energy Efficiency at MSMEs was organized from 09-to 10 may 2014 at Bankers Institute of Rural Development (BIRD) Lucknow campus by the Activity Partner Bharatiya Vikas Trust, Manipal under GEF-World Bank Project in association with Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) and Price water house Coopers (pwc). The program was attended by 30 participants from various Commercial banks, RRB, UP Financial Corporation, and BIRD.Shri Dinkar Rao, Senior Consultant, Bharatiya VikasTrust was present on the occasion.  Shri K K Gupta , Director, BIRD, Lucknow , in his inaugural address, highlighted the importance of energy efficiency at MSMEs to check wastages and improve the margins. He told that keeping in view the declining margins of the MSMEs, it is highlydesirable to installenergyefficientequipmentand machineries for which financingby banks/FIs are required. He further emphasized that energy saved in the form of conversion of wastage to profitabilitywillstrengthen the financials of the units. He also stressed that availability of energy efficient equipment and machineries along with aftersalesservice as another deciding factor for switchingover to such energy efficient equipment and machineries.He  also focused that the environmental issues need to be appraised along with other project appraisal techniques like technical appraisal, economical appraisal and financial appraisal. Similarly, social appraisal and energy efficiency appraisal are two emerging appraisal tools in the coming days.
